Benefits of Yoga
My classes draw on my experience of practising Ashtanga and Scaravelli-inspired yoga. I emphasise building core muscle strength and learning safe alignment of the joints in order to achieve the shape that’s appropriate for your own individual body. I encourage students to become curious observers of their bodies while exploring the postures.
When you’re practising yoga, you have the opportunity to ‘tune in’ to your body … you learn to ‘feel’ a shape ... how comfortable it is and how to adapt it to make it right for you – to make it enjoyable and sustainable. Practising Yoga helps us set up new processes and habits on and off the mat and helps us view ourselves and others with compassion. So yoga starts as something physical you do with your body, but then transforms into a mind practice. Focusing on the breath and moving the body with awareness and concentration brings about deep relaxation in the mind and the potential for meditation. Connecting with your body helps you enrich your connection with the outside world - every experience in yoga can be a powerful journey of self-enquiry and personal discovery.
